Herd Management

The seasons on a ranch are dictated by the cows. Herd management in the fall begins with gathering them off their summer pasture. Fall quickly gets busy with calf vaccinations, shipping calves, sorting replacements, culling cows, preg checking, then,  hopefully a long fall turnout. The later we have to start feeding, the better. Winter snow allows time to maintain equipment and check herd health daily.  Winter allows us time to prepare for the inevitable spring.

Spring season means more feeding and welcoming new lives to the ranch. The late spring highlight is branding  followed by turnout to summer pastures. You will have the opportunity to learn how to work with cows. There can be local job opportunities on both ranch and range, based on experience, during the summer months. If we’ve done our job well the ranch is full of happy, healthy, fat cows and suckling calves. When the time is right we’ll AI the cows and turn out the bulls.

Horsemanship

We have a remuda of horses for every skill level. If you don’t know how to ride, we’ll help you get started. For those who say they know how to ride (and EVERYONE says they know how to ride) we’ll evaluate that and determine which horse will be your best fit. Truly, it doesn’t get better than riding the range on horseback, and we are here to help you enjoy that.
